We are excited to share the heartwarming (and slightly hilarious) story of our newest rescue, a Sulcata tortoise named Dreyco, affectionately known as Mac Dre. His journey to finding a loving home is a testament to the compassion of those who care for animals in need and maybe a few giggles along the way!

A Troubled Beginning
Mac Dre's story began with a family who noticed that he was not being well cared for. They thought, “This tortoise deserves better than a life of Netflix and chill in a cramped corner!” Concerned for his well-being, they decided to step in and provide him with a better life. Their efforts were commendable, but as time went on, they realized that they could no longer offer him the care he deserved—turns out, tortoises aren’t great at doing their own laundry!
Health Challenges: Pyramiding and Beak Issues
During his early years, Mac Dre faced some health challenges due to a lack of calcium and improper feeding. This has led to noticeable pyramiding on his shell, which is a common issue among tortoises that do not receive the proper nutrition. Additionally, his beak has become overgrown, making it difficult for him to eat without assistance. While we are not entirely sure of his age, we are guesstimating him to be between 10 to 12 years old. Despite these challenges, Mac Dre has a lot of spunk and personality, but he does need some help when it comes to feeding due to his beak condition.
Finding a Forever Home
Fast forward a year, and Mac Dre's new owners reached out to us, hoping to find a suitable place for him. They wanted to ensure he had the best possible environment to thrive—preferably one with less drama than a reality TV show. We were happy to confirm that we had space in our rescue, and soon after, we met Mac Dre and brought him to his forever home, where he could finally kick back and enjoy life without a care in the world.
A New Chapter with His Farm-ily
Now, Mac Dre is living his best life! He has joined our wonderful community, where he shares his space with Palisades -the highland heifer and the goats. The bonds he is forming with his new farm-ily are heartwarming, and it’s clear that he is thriving in this nurturing environment though we suspect he’s also plotting to steal the goats’ snacks when no one is looking!
Conclusion
We are thrilled to have Mac Dre as part of our rescue family. His journey from neglect to a loving home is an inspiring reminder of the difference we can make in the lives of animals. So stay tuned for more updates on Mac Dre as he continues to enjoy his new life—who knows, he might even become the next big Instagram sensation with his tortoise antics!
